Barsua and Taldih Iron Mines belonging to Odisha Group of Mines (OGM) of SAIL-run Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) have been certified with SA8000:2014, an international standard for social accountability. The certification has been awarded for open cast mining and processing and dispatch of lumps and fines.
It is noteworthy that SA8000 is the world’s leading social certification program. It is an auditable standard that requires organizations to develop, maintain, and apply socially acceptable practices in the workplace including supply chain. The certification showcases the commitment of the Odisha Group of Mines to continually improve its social performance. It also provides a well-defined framework for the company to conduct business in a socially responsible manner.
Notably, the certification audit was carried out during the second week of April by Optimun Certification Inc. The Integrated Management System (IMS) at Barsua & Taldih Iron Mines has got a fresh boost with the latest addition of SA-8000 along with the existing three other global benchmark standards namely ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System, ISO 14001:2015 Environment Management System & ISO 45001:2018 Occupational Health & Safety.
