In a heartening event held today at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) in Basugaon, Kokrajhar, under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of NTPC Bongaigaon, the foundation stone laying ceremony for a new dormitory took place on February 29, 2024, heralding a significant stride in supporting girl students in the area. This collaborative effort by NTPC, the District Administration of Kokrajhar, and the Public Works Department (PWD) Building Division aims to provide on-campus accommodation for 80 students enrolled at the Centers of Excellence (CoE).
The ceremony was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including Pramod Boro, Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), along with Joyanta Basumatary, MLA of Sidli, and Lawrence Islary, MLA of Kokrajhar East. Pradeep Kumar Dwivedi, District Commissioner of Kokrajhar, KC Muraleedharan, CGM(O&M) of NTPC Bongaigaon, representatives from NTPC Bongaigaon, and officials from the PWD also attended. The program was further honored by the presence of Khanin Chandra Boro, Superintendent of PWD; Rabin Chandra Brahma, Executive Engineer of PWD; and Nurul Alam Barbhuiya, Principal of JNV, Kokrajhar.
In his address, Pramod Boro emphasized the pivotal role of holistic education in shaping future leaders and urged students to cultivate diverse skills and talents. He acknowledged NTPC Bongaigaon’s dedication to community services and applauded their initiative in supporting educational endeavors.
KC Muraleedharan, CGM (O&M) of NTPC Bongaigaon, praised the steadfast support from the BTR government and District Administration for the project. He underscored how this initiative aligns with the Government of India’s Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Abhiyan, emphasizing the importance of promoting girls’ education and empowerment.
The new dormitory, to be built with an estimated cost of Rs 35 lakh, will cater to the pressing need for on-campus accommodation for female students enrolled at the CoE. This initiative not only addresses the accommodation shortage but also contributes to broader youth development goals and empowers young women in the North-East. The foundation stone laying ceremony symbolizes a collective commitment to enhancing educational access and opportunities for girls in the state and the region, paving the way for their growth, empowerment, and future leadership in various spheres.
