BHUBANESWAR, APRIL 10, 2024 (TBB BUREAU): The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), a division of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), on Wednesday announced the resounding success of the Green Odisha Conclave 2024. This groundbreaking event acted as a catalyst for innovation and partnership in the pursuit of sustainable development goals. Gathering stakeholders from government, industry, academia, and civil society, the conclave aimed to champion green practices and technologies.
In the midst of global imperatives to combat climate change and environmental degradation, the Green Odisha Conclave 2024 emerged as a pivotal platform for thought leaders and experts to exchange insights and strategies. Manoranjan Misra, Engineer in Chief (Civil) at the Works Department, Government of Odisha, emphasized the urgency of addressing environmental concerns, affirming that green building and sustainable projects are non-negotiable imperatives in the face of escalating emissions.
Pradipta Mohanty, Chairman of CII Odisha State Council, underscored the need for a collaborative approach to position Odisha as a leader in green initiatives. He emphasized the importance of prioritizing research and development to enhance sustainable practices across sectors.
Manoj Kar, Chairman of the IGBC Bhubaneswar Chapter, highlighted the urgency of addressing climate change and called for a paradigm shift towards green building norms and sustainable practices in the construction industry.
During the conclave, Deputy Director, IGBC M Anand showcased key green concepts, best practices, and cost-saving measures for developing green-compliant buildings. He also highlighted remarkable projects certified by IGBC across the country, with over 100 projects in Odisha adopting green practices.
In a significant development, Mananjaya Rath was elected as the new Chairman and Sofia Firdous as Co-Chair of CII IGBC Bhubaneswar Chapter.
An interactive session moderated by M Anand, on ‘Unleashing sustainability’ featured eminent panellists such as Engineer in Chief, Works Department, Govt of Odisha Manoranjan Mishra, IDCO CGM-Environment Ashok Kumar Mishra, Airport Director, Biju Patnaik International Airport Prasanna Pradhan, and BMC City Engineer Bikash Kumar Behera.
The programme, supported by local chapters of CREDAI, IIA, IIID, and ISHRAE, witnessed the participation of over 175 key stakeholders from government departments, the building industry, and corporates.
