Bongaigaon, May 20, 2024 (TBB Bureau): In a significant move to enhance workplace safety, NTPC Bongaigaon has launched its innovative Safety Observation Kiosk, a pioneering system crafted by the site’s IT Department. The kiosk was inaugurated by KC Muraleedharan, the Business Unit Head of NTPC Bongaigaon, marking a significant milestone in the company’s safety initiatives.
This state-of-the-art system, unique to NTPC Bongaigaon, employs advanced speech-to-text technology to streamline the recording of safety observations. Designed with user-friendliness in mind, it caters specifically to contract labourers, simplifying the process to just two button presses.
By pressing one button, safety observers can verbally report issues in Hindi, which the system then transcribes into text displayed in Devanagari script. A second button press saves the observation, allowing the system to reset for the next entry. This efficient process ensures quick and accurate documentation, significantly enhancing workplace safety.
KC Muraleedharan emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “The introduction of the Safety Observation Kiosk marks a significant milestone in our continuous efforts to enhance workplace safety. This system not only simplifies the process of reporting safety observations but also ensures timely and efficient handling of safety issues.”
The system’s recorded observations are instantly accessible to the safety department and other designated monitors via their desktops, facilitating real-time monitoring and rapid responses to potential safety concerns.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by notable attendees including Induri S Reddy, GM (O&M), Asutosh Biswas, GM (Operation), Sanjay Mishra, AGM (IT), and other senior officials and Heads of Departments. This event highlighted NTPC’s commitment to utilizing technology to boost operational safety and support its workforce.
