BHUBANESWAR, JULY 18, 2024 (TBB BUREAU): Manipal Hospital has inaugurated an advanced Adult Immunization Clinic in collaboration with Pfizer Ltd., marking a significant advancement in public health for Bhubaneswar. This initiative underscores a proactive approach towards healthcare by emphasizing preventive measures against a wide range of diseases affecting adults.
The newly launched clinic offers a comprehensive array of vaccinations tailored for adults, including Hepatitis A and B, HPV, Chickenpox, Shingles, Influenza, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Covid-19, Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis. This initiative aims to bolster immunity among adults and contribute to better health outcomes across the community.
Dr. Saktimaya Mohapatra, Hospital Director of Manipal Hospital, Bhubaneswar, highlighted the critical need for such specialized facilities. “Adult immunization plays a crucial role in preventing serious illnesses. As we age, our immunity wanes, making vaccinations pivotal in safeguarding against infections,” he emphasized.
During the launch event, Dr. Subhashree Samantaray, Associate Consultant in Infectious Disease, underscored the significance of adult immunization in protecting against pneumococcal infections, while Dr. Siddharth Mishra, Medical Superintendent, and representatives from Pfizer reiterated their commitment to enhancing public health infrastructure.
A panel discussion featuring esteemed consultants further elucidated the clinic’s importance. Dr. Sarat Kumar Behera, Senior Consultant in Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care, stressed the necessity of vaccination for patients with chronic lung conditions. Dr. Harpreet Kaur, renowned Gynaecologist, discussed tailored vaccine strategies for pregnant women, and Dr. Tanmaya Sahu, Consultant in Internal Medicine, addressed the importance of immunization for travellers and immunocompromised patients.
Dr. Santosh Taur, Director of Medical Affairs at Pfizer Vaccines, highlighted the collaboration’s role in expanding access to adult vaccinations. “Our collaboration with Manipal Hospital aims to broaden access to preventive healthcare and ensure robust protection against vaccine-preventable diseases,” he stated. “This Clinic represents a significant milestone in bolstering the nation’s healthcare infrastructure, enhancing healthcare decision-making, and improving overall public health.”
Dr. Saktimaya Mohapatra concluded by emphasizing that while childhood vaccinations provide initial immunity, continuous vaccination throughout adulthood is crucial. “Promoting adult vaccination not only prevents diseases but also enhances economic development and social well-being,” he remarked.
