Kolkata, July 19, 2024 (TBB Bureau): The 5th National Conference of Corporate Company Secretaries (CS) organised by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) was inaugurated in Kolkata on Friday. The theme of this year’s conference is “Corporate CS: Transforming Governance for Viksit Bharat.”
Managing Director & Chief Group Editor of SANMARG, Vivek Gupta, who graced the event as the chief guest, emphasized the crucial role that Company Secretaries play in the corporate world. “From advising Boards to providing ease of doing business, from streamlining compliances to providing suggestions to the Government, the hope of good governance in India Inc., rests with Company Secretaries today,” he stated. He further remarked, “The role of a Company Secretary has taken a new dimension as they have undertaken a wide gamut of important jobs in their stride.”
ICSI President B Narasimhan echoed the sentiments expressed by Gupta. He spoke about the evolving role of Company Secretaries in building a vibrant India under the Viksit Bharat initiative. Narasimhan emphasized ICSI’s commitment to fostering a culture of good governance and enhancing the capacities of professionals while expanding its global presence.
The conference is set to host leaders from trade and industry, senior corporate professionals, corporate directors, senior government officials, and other stakeholders. They will engage in discussions across various technical sessions over the two-day event. The sessions will cover topics such as: ‘SEBI LODR: Latest Amendments, Issues & Clarifications’, ‘Framework and Trends for ESG Reporting’, ‘Digitizing Governance: Building Efficacy’, and ‘Thought Leadership: Changing Board Dynamics’
In addition to the ongoing conference, the Institute announced two forthcoming programs: the ICSI Middle East Conference scheduled for September 4-6, 2024, in Abu Dhabi, UAE, and the 52nd National Convention of Company Secretaries set for November 8-10, 2024, in Mumbai.
ICSI Secretary Asish Mohan expressed gratitude to all the participants and speakers for their valuable contributions to the event.
With its focus on transformative governance and the role of Company Secretaries, the conference aims to set a new benchmark for corporate governance practices in India.
