RANCHI, JULY 28, 2024 (TBB BUREAU): NTPC Mining Limited (NML) has achieved a significant milestone with its Pakri-Barwadih coal mining project securing the prestigious 3rd Prize in the Large Opencast Coal Mine category at the inaugural pan India level Mines Safety Awards (MSA-2024). The event, hosted at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in Kolkata on Sunday, was organized by the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS) to recognize outstanding safety practices in India’s mining industry.
The Pakri-Barwadih coal mining project distinguished itself among its peers through its rigorous safety protocols, operational efficiency, and consistent performance, demonstrating NML’s unwavering commitment to the highest standards of safety and operational excellence.
Prabhat Kumar, Chief Inspector of Mines and Director General of DGMS, presented the award to Shivam Srivastava, Director (Fuel) of NTPC Limited and Chairman of NTPC Mining Limited, and Faiz Taiyab, Head of Project at Pakri-Barwadih. The ceremony was attended by Chandra Shekhar, Mine Agent, Director (Operations) of TSMPL, along with senior officials from Coal Mining HQ and TSML.
In his address to the gathering, Prabhat Kumar lauded NTPC’s dedication to cultivating a robust safety culture and implementing best practices in the mining sector. Shivam Srivastava highlighted the importance of such accolades in promoting safety and advancing India’s self-reliance goals, stating, “Mining plays a crucial role in the development of society and the progress of the nation.”
Beyond the safety award, NTPC Mining Limited also garnered recognition for its exhibition stall, which was named the Best Stall in the Coal Sector. This accolade further underscores the company’s commitment to excellence and innovation in mining operations.
These awards not only celebrate NTPC’s exemplary safety standards but also affirm its leadership in promoting sustainable mining practices across India’s mining landscape. The event was graced by prominent industry leaders, including the Chairman of Coal India Limited, CMDs, and Directors from major mining corporations such as CIL, NMDC, MOIL, HCL, SAIL, UCIL, along with representatives from leading private companies like Tata Steel and Hindalco.
