Bhubaneswar, August 18, 2024 (TBB Bureau): KIIT Deemed to be University has achieved a significant milestone with the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), USA, accrediting six of its engineering programs for the next six years.
ABET, renowned globally as the premier accreditation organization for engineering and technology programs, is often considered the ‘Gold Standard’ for engineering education.
This accreditation confirms that KIIT’s programs meet rigorous quality standards, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for the global workforce. The accredited programs at KIIT-DU include B. Tech Computer Science & Engineering (accredited by both ABET’s CAC & EAC Commissions), B. Tech Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering, B. Tech Electrical Engineering, B. Tech Electronics & Electrical Engineering, and B. Tech Mechanical Engineering.
Additionally, the B. Tech Civil Engineering program was previously accredited in 2022 for a six-year term.
This achievement places KIIT-DU among an elite group of institutions, including prestigious universities such as Harvard, Cambridge, Stanford, MIT, and the University of Pennsylvania.
Through its commitment to academic excellence, extensive research initiatives, and practical exposure, KIIT has successfully met ABET’s stringent educational standards, which include curriculum quality, faculty qualifications, and outcomes assessment. The university’s dedication to continuous improvement and a student-centered approach has been crucial in securing this esteemed accreditation, reinforcing its status among top-tier institutions globally. ABET’s peer-review process is highly esteemed for adding critical value to academic programs in technical disciplines, where quality, precision, and safety are essential.
In another notable development, the World Technology Universities Network (WTUN) has welcomed KIIT as a new member through its Consortium Collaboration agreement. This membership opens up numerous opportunities for KIIT students, including participation in global competitions, eligibility for the Brian Cantor Scholarship Prize 2023-24, hackathons, and exchange programs. KIIT is now among 20 universities worldwide in this network.
Additionally, KIIT has received approval for the Australia-India Critical Minerals Research Hub (AICMRH) under the SPARC Scheme by the Ministry of Education, Government of India. The hub will focus on critical mineral extraction, processing, criticality assessments, economic geology, sustainable mining practices, and supply chain analyses. KIIT joins 17 Indian institutions and 11 Australian institutions in this program.
KIIT & KISS Founder Achyuta Samanta expressed his delight, stating that these recognitions underscore the high quality of KIIT’s programs, which effectively prepare students for global careers. He highlighted that KIIT is uniquely positioned as the only university in India to hold accreditations from both IET, the UK, and ABET, the USA.
