Angul, August 18, 2024 (TBB Bureau): In a nail-biting conclusion to the OP Jindal Cup 2024, Jaga United emerged victorious over Jharsuguda FC with a 4-3 win in a penalty shootout. The gripping final, held at the PTC Ground in Angul, was the culmination of 12 days of intense football competition among 12 teams, and drew a large crowd of passionate football fans.
The final was graced by the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including Rudra Narayan Pani, Member of Parliament for Dhenkanal Constituency, who served as the Chief Guest. Other notable guests included Pratap Chandra Pradhan, MLA Angul; Agasti Behera, MLA Chhendipada; Akhay Kumar Samant, Chairman of Angul Municipality; Damodar Mittal, Executive Director of Jindal Steel & Power (JSP); Hemant Kumar Singh, CDO-cum-ED Zilla Parishad; Akhaya Seth, District Sports Officer; and Kishore Kumar Kar, Treasurer of the Athletic Association.
During the ceremony, Rudra Narayan Pani and other dignitaries commended the JSP Foundation for its significant contributions to community development and national progress. They highlighted the efforts of JSP Chairman Naveen Jindal and JSP Foundation Chairperson Shallu Jindal in fostering sustainable development through their diverse Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.
The event also celebrated outstanding individual performances. Rinku Oram of Jharsuguda was awarded Best Player of the Tournament, while Sishir Nayak of Jaga United Bhubaneswar received the Best Goalkeeper accolade. Tofan Nayak of Jaga United was honoured as the Man of the Final Match for his exceptional contribution during the final.
Expressing his appreciation, Damodar Mittal conveyed gratitude to all participants and organisers, emphasizing JSP’s dedication to community service and its commitment to promoting local sports talent.
The final match was officiated by referees Siba Sanker Panda, Dilip Kumar Rout, Alok Dehuri, and Bhleswar Garai, whose oversight ensured a fair and exciting game.
