Berhampur, August 23, 2024 (TBB Bureau): Tata Power Southern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPSODL) has launched an incense stick manufacturing centre — Mangalam Dhoopbatti Centre — in the Rangeilunda Block of Ganjam District. This initiative aims to empower women in rural areas by providing sustainable livelihood opportunities through Self-Help Groups (SHGs). The centre was established in partnership with the Odisha Livelihood Mission and Mission Shakti.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by TPSODL CEO Amit Kumar Garg, along with Rangeilunda Block Development Officer (BDO) Ansuman Mahapatra, and other dignitaries. The Mangalam Dhoopbatti Centre will support SHG members from six panchayats: Randha, Golanthara, Kanisi, Chikarada, Sasanpadar, and Kotharising.
The centre focuses on producing eco-friendly incense sticks by upcycling flowers collected from various temples. This innovative approach not only promotes environmental sustainability by converting waste into valuable products but also provides a stable source of income for the SHG members.
“TPSODL remains committed to empowering the community by creating new opportunities. We are particularly focused on the overall development of women and enhancing the social and economic life of rural areas. This incense stick production centre will not only provide women with employment but also promote sustainable practices,” said Amit Kumar Garg.
Comprehensive training programs have been organized for the SHG members involved in this initiative. Led by experts, these sessions equipped participants with the skills needed to craft high-quality Dhoopbatti using natural materials. The training covered all aspects, from flower processing to machine operation, ensuring that the women are fully prepared to manage the production process. TPSODL has also facilitated the necessary machinery for the centre.
Gitanjali Pradhan, a member of one of the participating SHGs, shared, “I am delighted to be part of this initiative and hope it will help us gain our own identity and a path to empowerment.”
