National Space Day celebrated with enthusiasm at Paradip Port

PARADIP, AUGUST 23, 2024 (TBB BUREAU):  Paradip Port Authority (PPA) marked a momentous occasion today as it celebrated National Space Day, a new national observance declared by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The designation of August 23 as National Space Day commemorates India’s historic achievement in space exploration — the successful soft landing of the Chandrayaan-3 lander on the Moon’s South Pole. With this achievement, India became the fourth country to land on the lunar surface and the first to reach the South Pole.

The theme for this year’s National Space Day, “Touching Lives While Touching the Moon: India’s Space Saga,” was embraced wholeheartedly by Paradip Port Authority, which organized a series of engaging and educational activities to honour this monumental achievement.

Local students were at the heart of the celebrations, participating in a variety of competitions and events designed to ignite their imaginations and deepen their understanding of space exploration. Drawing and essay writing contests were held, allowing students to explore their creativity and express their excitement about space. A space-themed fancy dress competition featured young participants from ‘V’ Point KG School, who showcased their innovative costumes inspired by celestial themes.

PPA Secretary UR Mohan Raju was present to encourage the students and personally award winners with prizes and certificates, recognizing their enthusiasm and creativity.

In addition to these activities, students from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Paradip Port, played an active role in the celebrations. They delivered speeches highlighting the significance of National Space Day and presented a PowerPoint display outlining the future endeavours of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). Models of Chandrayaan-3 were showcased, and students created detailed charts and diagrams to visually represent the achievements and future aspirations of India’s space missions.

The day’s events underscored the collective pride and excitement surrounding India’s space achievements and fostered a sense of wonder and curiosity among the younger generation. Paradip Port Authority’s celebration of National Space Day served as a testament to India’s growing prowess in space exploration and its commitment to inspiring future generations.
