BHUBANESWAR, AUGUST 23, 2024 (TBB BUREAU): The much-anticipated “Silk India – Wedding Collection” exhibition kicked off today at hotel The New Marrion in the capital city of Odisha. The event, which will run from August 23 to August 31, showcases a stunning array of ethnic weaves and traditional silk and cotton products crafted by artisans from across India.
The exhibition, inaugurated by Odia actress Sivani Sangita, features a diverse collection of fabrics, including Uppadas, Banarasi silks, Gadwals, Dharmavaram, Jamdanis, Jamawars, and Sambalpuris.
7Attendees can explore a rich assortment of saris, dress materials, and fashion jewellery, alongside home furnishings and designer clothes from various regions.
Organized by the Orissa Art and Craft Committee, the exhibition aims to promote traditional handloom skills while supporting the economic relevance of weavers. With over 50,000 varieties on display, including items from 14 handloom weaving states like Assam, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Bihar, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, West Bengal, the event offers a kaleidoscope of India’s textile artistry.
Manas Acharya, the organizer of the event, emphasized the exhibition’s social objective to provide a direct market for weavers, bypassing intermediaries. Highlights of the collection include exclusive handcrafted sarees priced between Rs. 500 and Rs. 150,000, along with Dokra Tribal Jewellery and Channapatna toys.
For those interested in unique textiles, the exhibition features a range of products including Coimbatore and Muga silks, Bangalore and Andhra Pradesh silks, as well as Chhattisgarh kosa and Bihar khadi silks. Also on display are Gujarat’s bandhani and patola silks, Jammu & Kashmir’s pashmina shawls, and Maharashtra’s zari paithani sarees.
The “Silk India” exhibition promises to be a vibrant celebration of India’s rich textile heritage, offering something for every shopper and textile enthusiast.
