NALCO partners with IISSSC to elevate skill development for contractual employees

Bhubaeswar, August 26, 2024 (TBB Bureau): In alignment with the Government of India’s Skill India Initiative, the state-owned National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Iron and Steel Sector Skill Council (IISSSC). This strategic partnership aims to implement a system for the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), facilitating NSQF-based skill development programs, followed by assessments and certification from IISSSC for NALCO’s contractual workforce.

This collaboration between NALCO and IISSSC is designed to enhance the skill levels of NALCO’s employees, ensuring they meet industry standards and contribute to the organization’s overall efficiency and safety. The MoU signifies a shared commitment to advancing the Skill India mission and fostering sustainable growth within the industry.

The signing ceremony took place at Nalco Bhawan in Bhubaneswar, with key figures in attendance, including NALCO’s Chairman and Managing Director Sridhar Patra, NALCO Directors, IISSSC CEO Dr. Sushim Banerjee, BPNSI Director Pritam Shankar Purkayastha, and officials from NALCO, IISSSC, and BPNSI.

Commenting on the occasion, NALCO CMD Sridhar Patra stated, “The benefits of skill training will significantly enhance the safety and sustained operations of our organization.”

The IISSSC was established under the Government of India’s National Skill Development Policy of 2009. Its mission is to address the skill gap by complementing the vocational education system through research, improving delivery mechanisms, and ensuring quality. IISSSC is responsible for identifying skill development needs, maintaining skill inventories, and planning and executing training for trainers, supported by an IT-enabled Labour Management Information System (LMIS).
