NTPC Bongaigaon collaborates with Assam Cancer Care Foundation to launch cancer care project in kokrajhar

Bongaigaon, August 28, 2024 (TBB Bureau): In a major step to enhance healthcare services in Assam, NTPC Bongaigaon has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Assam Cancer Care Foundation (ACCF) to launch a comprehensive cancer care project in Kokrajhar district. As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, this project, valued at Rs 32.7 lakh, aims to provide preventive and diagnostic care to approximately 42,000 people across various villages, thereby addressing the growing cancer burden in the state.

The MoA signing ceremony, held on August 27, 2024, was led by Akhilesh Singh, Head of Project, NTPC Bongaigaon. The agreement was signed by Onkar Nath, AGM (HR), NTPC Bongaigaon, and Dr. Major General J P Prasad, CEO, Assam Cancer Care Foundation.

Speaking at the event, Akhilesh Singh lauded the Assam Cancer Care Foundation for its dedicated efforts in cancer detection, treatment, and prevention. He expressed confidence that the project would deliver much-needed healthcare services and support to the people of Kokrajhar.

The ceremony was attended by key dignitaries, including Dr. Subrata Chanda, Head of Cancer Care and Research, ACCF; Dr. Nirmal Singha, Medical Superintendent, ACCF; Asutosh Biswas, GM (Operation), NTPC Bongaigaon; Deepayan Paul, CMO, NTPC Bongaigaon; and other senior officials from NTPC and ACCF.

For the first time, the project will cover four Block Primary Health Centers (BPHCs) and around 80 Health and Wellness Centers (HCWs) in Kokrajhar District. It will focus on early detection of oral, breast, and cervical cancers through door-to-door preliminary screenings conducted by Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs). The initiative also includes awareness and sensitization sessions for healthcare workers and the general public about cancer risk factors and the availability of government schemes. Additionally, home-based palliative care will be provided to cancer patients, ensuring they receive essential support within their homes.

A key component of the project is linking confirmed cancer patients to existing government schemes, enabling access to cashless treatment and reimbursement facilities. This will significantly reduce the financial burden on patients and their families. The project will also strengthen the public healthcare system by extending the reach of government healthcare schemes to remote areas.

This collaboration marks a significant milestone in NTPC Bongaigaon’s CSR initiatives, reaffirming the company’s commitment to the health and well-being of the communities it serves.

The project aligns with Schedule VII, Sub-section (i) of the Companies Act 2013, and the CPSE common theme for 2024-25, “Health & Nutrition,” as prescribed by the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE). It also contributes to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
