Vedanta Aluminium observes International Ozone Day with community awareness campaign

Jharsuguda, September 23, 2024 (TBB Bureau): Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, marked International Ozone Day by launching a community awareness campaign, followed by a plantation drive. This initiative reaffirms the company’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 13 (Climate Action), emphasizing the importance of protecting the ozone layer and promoting environmental sustainability.

As part of the campaign, Vedanta Aluminium engaged local communities to highlight the critical role of the ozone layer in safeguarding life on Earth by blocking harmful ultraviolet radiation. The outreach aimed to educate participants about the consequences of ozone depletion and the actionable steps that individuals and businesses can take to lessen their environmental impact.

Sharing his thoughts, Vedanta Aluminium Chief Operating Officer Sunil Gupta said, “At Vedanta Aluminium, our sustainability commitments extend beyond our operations to encompass the surrounding communities. International Ozone Day serves as a reminder of our responsibility to protect the environment. Through this awareness campaign, we aim to inspire collective action for the preservation of the ozone layer, which is crucial for maintaining the Earth’s ecological balance.”

Vedanta Aluminium has consistently led in environmental sustainability, implementing world-class technologies to reduce emissions, enhance energy efficiency, and minimize its environmental footprint. The company’s initiatives align with global efforts to combat climate change and protect the ozone layer, showcasing its dedication to sustainability and responsible production practices. In recognition of its outstanding sustainability efforts, Vedanta Aluminium achieved the top rank in the S&P Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) for the aluminium industry for the 2023 assessment period.

The International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer is celebrated on September 16th. The day commemorates the signing of the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer in 1987.
