NTPC-sponsored CIPET Skill Development Training sees successful conclusion with job placements

Ranchi, September 23, 2024 (TBB Bureau): The first batch of NTPC Mining Limited (NML)-sponsored skill development training, conducted in collaboration with the Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (CIPET), Ranchi, has concluded with a resounding success. This initiative, part of NTPC’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, has been aimed at empowering the youth from project-affected areas of Jharkhand, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh by providing them with the skills required for self-employment and formal jobs.

The training program, which catered to 80 youth—including 25 girls—focused on two key job-oriented courses: Machine Operator – Plastic Processing and Machine Operator – Injection Moulding. The first batch, consisting of 40 students enrolled in the Machine Operator – Plastic Processing course, commenced on March 20, 2024, and concluded with job placements on September 19, 2024. These students hailed from NTPC’s coal mining projects in PakriBarwadih, ChattiBariattu, Kerendari, Badam, Banardih, Dulanga, and Talaipalli.

The valedictory event, held to mark the successful completion of the course, was graced by Rajnish Rastogi, Chief General Manager (HR), NTPC Coal Mining HQ, and Pravin Bachhav, Joint Director & Head of CIPET, Ranchi. They interacted with the students, distributed certificates of completion, and handed over job placement letters to the graduates.

During his address, Rajnish Rastogi extended his heartfelt congratulations to the students, commending them on their achievement and encouraging them to strive for excellence in their future endeavors. He also lauded CIPET for its dedicated efforts in training the students and successfully facilitating their placement in various companies. Shri Pravin Bachhav echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the importance of continuous learning and self-improvement.

The success of this initiative is evident in the personal stories of students like Asish Sinha and Kabita Sa, who have emerged with fresh perspectives and newfound confidence. Asish, hailing from Pakri Barwadih village, had lost his job post-COVID and was forced to return to his village. However, through the NTPC-sponsored training at CIPET, he was able to secure a new job. Grateful for the opportunity, Asish described this phase of his life as a “blessing in disguise,” emphasizing the life-changing impact of the training program.

Kabita Sa, from Sundergarh district in Odisha, is another shining example of the program’s success. A project-affected person (PAP) from NTPC Dulanga, she completed her intermediate studies in Arts and, despite coming from a farming background, found the skill development course in plastic processing to be an enriching experience. Kabita highlighted the holistic nature of the training, which not only imparted technical knowledge but also improved her proficiency in computer literacy and English communication, thus preparing her for a brighter future.

As the second batch, focused on Machine Operator – Injection Moulding, progresses with training set to conclude in December 2024, NTPC continues to fulfill its commitment to community development and empowerment. With three successful batches completed to date, this initiative stands as a testament to NTPC’s dedication to uplifting underprivileged communities and promoting sustainable livelihoods.

Such skill development programs by NTPC Mining Limited are proving to be a beacon of hope for the youth in the coal mining areas, providing them with new skills, opportunities, and a path to self-reliance.
