World’s first 3D+4K 55’’ endospine surgery for slipped disc and sciatica now available in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, October 2, 2024 (TBB Bureau): In a breakthrough for spine surgery, Odisha now offers the world’s first 3D+4K 55’’ Endospine Surgery for treating slipped disc and sciatica, two of the most painful and common spinal ailments. This advanced technology, now available at Modern Ortho Clinic, Nayapalli, Bhubaneswar, is led by renowned endoscopic surgeon and orthopaedician, Dr. P.C. Dey.

Dr. Dey, a pioneer in endoscopic spine surgery in Odisha, explained that the 3D+4K Endospine system allows for minimally invasive procedures, ensuring less pain, smaller incisions, minimal blood loss, and faster recovery. The introduction of this cutting-edge technology in Odisha marks a milestone not only for the state but also globally, as it is the first of its kind anywhere in the world. Dr. Dey has already successfully performed 35 surgeries using this technique since its installation in August 2024.

“This advanced system provides unparalleled visualization, with 80 to 100 times magnification, allowing for far better accuracy in diagnosis and treatment,” said Dr. Dey. “It enables surgeons to operate with minimal cuts, typically 16-18 mm, ensuring faster recovery for patients, who can walk within hours of the procedure and often go home the next day.”

Dr. Dey, who has performed over 3,000 endoscopic spine surgeries since 2007, is regarded as a leader in the field, having trained directly under Dr. Jean Destandau, the technique’s pioneer from France. He introduced 3D endoscopic spine surgery in Odisha in 2022 and continues to push the boundaries of medical innovation with this latest 3D+4K technology.

In August 2024, Dr. Dey installed the world’s ultimate endoscopic system, the 3D+4K 55’’ Endospine, marking a significant leap in the treatment of spinal conditions. “Back pain, often caused by conditions like slipped discs and sciatica, affects around 77% of the population, with 35% experiencing sciatica at least once in their lives. Early diagnosis through MRI has greatly improved treatment outcomes, and with this new technology, we are able to offer solutions that provide superior results with minimal discomfort,” he explained.

Patients undergoing this procedure experience less pain and shorter recovery times compared to traditional open or micro spine surgeries. “Endoscopic spine surgery reduces the risk of complications and the likelihood of relapse, offering a highly effective alternative to conventional methods,” added Dr. Dey.

Dr. Dey is not only a surgeon but also an active educator. He regularly conducts national and international training programs for neuro and orthopedic surgeons, including the upcoming Hands-On Cadaveric Training and Live Surgery Program from October 3-5, 2024, in Bhubaneswar. His expertise is recognized worldwide, with recent visits to medical congresses in China and Germany, where he shared his research and trained young surgeons.

As Vice President of the World Endoscopic Spine Society (WESS), Dr. Dey remains at the forefront of promoting this advanced technique globally, contributing to improved spinal healthcare practices around the world.

For patients suffering from debilitating back pain, slipped disc, or sciatica, this new, minimally invasive technique offers hope for quicker recovery and long-lasting relief, making Odisha a global leader in advanced spinal care.
