Department of Posts and Amazon sign landmark MoU to enhance logistics collaboration

New Delhi, October 4, 2024 (TBB Bureau): In a move set to boost India’s logistics and e-commerce sectors, the Department of Posts (DoP) under the Ministry of Communications and Amazon Seller Services Private Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Friday, marking a new chapter in their longstanding collaboration.

The MoU was signed by Kushal Vashist, General Manager of the Parcel Directorate at DoP, and Venkatesh Tiwari, Director of Operations at Amazon Seller Services Pvt Ltd. The signing ceremony, held in New Delhi, was witnessed by Vandita Kaul, Secretary (Posts), and Aman Jain, Director of Public Policy at Amazon, along with senior officials from both organizations.

Amazon has been utilizing the Department of Posts’ vast network for parcel transmission since 2013, and this agreement is expected to further deepen that relationship. By leveraging DoP’s extensive reach across more than 1.6 lakh post offices nationwide, Amazon aims to expand its logistics capabilities, particularly in rural and remote regions.

The MoU between the Department of Posts and Amazon focuses on exploring joint opportunities in logistics and business expansion. This will enable Amazon to further leverage the Department of Posts’ vast postal network for parcel deliveries across India. The collaboration will see both entities synchronize their logistics operations, share knowledge and resources, and explore capacity-sharing opportunities to boost efficiency. A regular review mechanism has also been established, with both parties set to conduct quarterly reviews to monitor the progress of the partnership and identify new areas for collaboration.

For Amazon, the partnership provides increased access to the Department of Posts’ extensive infrastructure, which includes over 1.6 lakh post offices across India. This will streamline Amazon’s logistics operations and extend its reach to customers in even the most remote areas.

For the Department of Posts, this collaboration presents an opportunity to expand its parcel business, enhance its e-commerce logistics expertise, and drive efficiency in its operations.

The partnership is expected to play a crucial role in supporting India’s goal of becoming a global logistics hub.
