Workshop on ‘Safe Usage of Explosives in Mines Operations’ held at JSP’s TRB Iron Mines

Koida, November 17, 2024 (TBB Bureau): A workshop on ‘Safe Storage, Transportation, Handling, and Usage of Explosives in Mines’ was successfully organized at the TRB Iron Ore Mines of Jindal Steel & Power (JSP) in Tensa. The event, held under the aegis of the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), Bhubaneswar Region-II, witnessed robust participation from across the mining sector.

Representatives from approximately 35 mining companies participated, with 104 delegates, including Agents, Managers, Safety Officers, and Blasting In-Charges, attending the session. The workshop was led by P. R. Thakur, Director of Mines Safety, and U. Shiv Sankar, Deputy Director of Mines Safety, DGMS Bhubaneswar Region-II.

Key discussions centered on implementing DGMS guidelines to ensure the safe transportation and handling of explosives while emphasizing the adoption of minimal, need-based usage. Experts shared insights into preventive measures to mitigate risks and avoid accidents associated with explosives in mining operations.

Participants engaged in interactive sessions, gaining practical knowledge and learning best practices to reinforce a safety-first culture across mining activities. The deliberations also focused on enhancing operational safety standards and fostering a collective approach to compliance.

Speaking at the event, Pramod Kumar Patra, Executive Vice President of JSP, and Raghuraj Raghuvanshi, Unit Head of TRB Iron Mines, reiterated JSP’s unwavering commitment to prioritizing safety above all else. “At JSP, safety is not just a protocol but a core value,” emphasized Patra.

The DGMS continues to spearhead initiatives aimed at promoting safety awareness and reducing hazards associated with mining operations. This workshop served as a vital platform for collaboration, enabling industry stakeholders to share experiences and chart a safer course for the mining sector.
