Bhubaneswar, Dec 5, 2024 (TBB Bureau): GMR Kamalanga Energy Limited (GKEL), a subsidiary of GMR Power and Urban Infra Ltd (GPUIL), has achieved a historic milestone by being awarded the prestigious Sword of Honour-2024 from the British Safety Council. This accolade is a testament to GKEL’s exceptional commitment to managing health and safety risks in the workplace.

This achievement marks a significant moment as GKEL becomes the first industry in Odisha to earn this coveted recognition. The award underscores the company’s relentless pursuit of excellence in maintaining outstanding health and safety standards.

The award was presented to Manoj Mishra, Plant Head, and Basudev Swain, Associate General Manager (AGM) of GKEL, at a ceremony held at the Royal Forum of Draper’s Hall in London on November 29.

The ‘Sword of Honour’ is a globally recognized award presented to organizations that demonstrate exemplary dedication to health and safety management. To qualify for this honor, companies must achieve a ‘Five Stars’ rating during the British Safety Council’s rigorous health and safety audit.

Ashis Basu, Chief Executive Officer of GMR Energy Limited, commended the team for this landmark accomplishment. Located in Kamalanga Village, Dhenkanal district, Odisha, GMR Kamalanga Energy Limited operates a 1050 MW (3X350 MW) coal-based power plant strategically positioned near the coal belt. It has long-term Power Purchase Agreements with GRIDCO (Odisha), Uttar and Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigams (UHBVNL & DHBVNL), Bihar State Electricity Board, and a medium-term PPA with TNEB.
