Asteria Aerospace enhances Indian Army’s eyes in the sky with indigenously developed AT-15 VTOL drones

Mumbai, December 6, 2024 (TBB Bureau): Asteria Aerospace, a pioneering full-stack drone technology company, has marked a significant milestone by successfully delivering the largest-ever contract of its indigenously developed AT-15 Vertical Takeoff and Landing (VTOL) drones to the Indian Army. This achievement underscores Asteria’s commitment to the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) and its dedication to providing cutting-edge solutions tailored to the exacting demands of defence and homeland security agencies.

Speaking on the accomplishment, Neel Mehta, Director and Co-founder of Asteria Aerospace, stated, “This delivery of Asteria’s indigenously developed AT-15 surveillance drones to the Indian Ministry of Defence demonstrates our unwavering support to meet the evolving needs of our defence forces. These man-portable drones are equipped with advanced features, including best-in-class flight performance in high-altitude areas, integrated high-resolution day and night cameras, and support for precision artillery targeting. We are confident they will play a crucial role in enhancing the surveillance capabilities of the Indian Army.”

The AT-15 drone, designed and manufactured by Asteria Aerospace, stands out due to its unique blended wing design, which enhances aerodynamics, flight efficiency, and resistance to high winds. The drone is capable of operating at altitudes of up to 6,000 meters above mean sea level and features vertical takeoff and landing capabilities, enabling deployment and recovery from confined spaces.

With an impressive flight endurance of up to 120 minutes and a range of 20 kilometres line-of-sight, the AT-15 facilitates extended surveillance and reconnaissance operations over vast areas. Its integrated Electro-Optical Infrared (EO-IR) payload provides high-zoom capability, enabling precise aerial intelligence gathering during both day and night missions. Constructed entirely from composite materials, the drone is robust, lightweight, and man-portable, making it an ideal tool for modern battlefield scenarios.

Asteria Aerospace operates a state-of-the-art 28,000 sq. ft. design and production facility in Bengaluru, featuring a DSIR-recognized R&D lab dedicated to developing future-ready products adhering to the highest standards of quality and compliance. In addition, the company has established a strategic presence in Gurugram to serve its diverse clientele, which includes government and defence agencies.

This delivery solidifies Asteria’s reputation as a leader in the Indian drone technology space and highlights its capability to meet the stringent operational requirements of the Indian defence forces. The AT-15 VTOL drones are set to significantly bolster the Indian Army’s surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities, ensuring enhanced situational awareness and operational readiness.
