In a significant move to enhance education infrastructure in the Northeast, NTPC Bongaigaon has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Purva Seema Vikas Pratishthan (PSVP) to expand a school building, construct teachers’ quarters, and renovate a boys’ hostel in Kharsom, Ukhrul, Manipur.

The MoA was formalized in the presence of Arindam Sinha, Regional Executive Director, ER-II, and Arnab Maitra, Head of Project, NTPC Bongaigaon. The agreement was signed between Onkar Nath, AGM (HR), NTPC Bongaigaon, and Jaywant Kondvilkar, Secretary and Representative of PSVP, with Chetan Kulkarni also representing the organization. The event was attended by senior NTPC officials, including Debabrata Kar, GM (O&M), Asutosh Biswas, GM (Operation), Dr. Deepayan Paul, CMO, NTPC Bongaigaon, Paresh Mathur, AGM (TS), and members of the CSR department.

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, NTPC Bongaigaon is committing ₹3.4 crore to this project, which is expected to transform the education landscape in one of Manipur’s remotest regions. The initiative will improve school infrastructure, ensuring better access to education for students who currently face significant challenges due to difficult terrain and limited facilities.

The expansion of classrooms will accommodate more students, helping to reduce dropout rates, while the construction of teachers’ quarters will address a critical shortage of educators by providing them with residential facilities. Additionally, the renovation of the boys’ hostel, including the installation of new kitchen and sanitation facilities, will create a safe and comfortable living environment for students from far-flung villages.

This initiative is poised to bring long-term socio-educational benefits to Ukhrul, allowing children from disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue quality education without the burden of long travel distances. Improved infrastructure and better academic facilities will help bridge the educational divide between remote and urban areas, encouraging more families to enroll their children in school.

By addressing key educational challenges in this underserved region, NTPC’s project goes beyond infrastructure development — it aims to empower the community by fostering sustainable learning opportunities. Through this initiative, NTPC reaffirms its commitment to nation-building and inclusive development, ensuring that every child, regardless of location, has access to quality education.
