In a significant stride toward community development, NTPC Limited and the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) have joined forces to launch three impactful initiatives in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), with a combined financial commitment of ₹1.10 crore. The Memoranda of Agreement (MoAs) were exchanged between Pramod Boro, Chief of Bodoland Territorial Region, and Debabrata Kar, General Manager (O&M), NTPC, at a formal ceremony attended by senior officials from both organizations.
The ceremony, held in Bongaigaon, also saw the presence of distinguished guests including Akash Deep, Principal Secretary, BTC; Masanda M Pertin, Deputy Commissioner, Kokrajhar; and Onkar Nath, Additional General Manager (HR), NTPC. The event highlighted the commitment of NTPC’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs toward creating lasting positive impacts in the areas of education, livelihood, and healthcare.
Pramod Boro lauded NTPC’s continued support for BTR’s development, emphasizing that the initiatives under the CSR umbrella are not just projects but pathways to empowerment. “NTPC’s contributions are pivotal in transforming lives, fostering education, improving livelihoods, and advancing healthcare. This partnership has brought real change, and we are grateful for NTPC’s commitment to building a brighter future for our people,” Boro stated.
The first project under the MoAs is the Bodoland Youth Employment Mission through the Space Education Lab, which has received ₹60 lakh in funding from NTPC. This initiative, implemented by the Department of Education, BTC, aims to cultivate scientific curiosity and innovation among students in the region. The year-long program will offer hands-on learning experiences in space sciences, providing the youth of BTR with valuable skills and fostering future career opportunities in the field.
Another significant project is the Promotion of Eri Silk and Handloom Village in Raimona National Park, for which NTPC has committed ₹30 lakh. In collaboration with the Directorate of Sericulture, BTC, this project aims to preserve traditional weaving crafts and promote sustainable livelihoods. The initiative will empower local artisans, particularly women, by offering skill development opportunities and enhancing their access to markets, thus contributing to socio-economic upliftment in the region.
Additionally, NTPC will support the Boat Ambulance Service at Khutabagra with ₹20 lakh, addressing the healthcare challenges faced by communities in remote riverine areas. Implemented by the Directorate of Health Services, BTC, this service will provide essential medical assistance to hard-to-reach areas, ensuring timely healthcare access for those in urgent need.
Debabrata Kar, General Manager (O&M) of NTPC, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to inclusive growth, stating that these projects embody NTPC’s CSR philosophy of ‘People Before Power.’ He emphasized that the initiatives are designed to empower local communities and provide sustainable benefits that will continue to improve lives in the BTR region.
The MoAs formalize a shared vision between BTC and NTPC for the long-term development of the region, with an overarching focus on holistic community progress. The collaboration marks a crucial milestone in their collective efforts to foster prosperity and well-being in the Bodoland Territorial Region.
