Vedanta Group Chairman Anil Agarwal met Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi at Lokseva Bhavan on Saturday to discuss investment opportunities in the state.
The meeting follows the recent Utkarsh Odisha – Make in Odisha Conclave 2025, where Agarwal had announced a massive Rs 1 lakh crore investment to establish an aluminium refinery and smelter project in Rayagada district. The proposed project includes a 6 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) aluminium refinery and a 30 lakh tonne aluminium smelter, significantly boosting Odisha’s industrial landscape.
The discussions between the Chief Minister and Agarwal are expected to pave the way for rapid implementation of the proposed projects, fostering economic growth, job creation, and enhanced industrial development in the state.
Vedanta already operates a 1.8 MTPA aluminium smelter in Jharsuguda and a 3.5 MTPA alumina refinery in Lanjigarh. Additionally, the company has secured mining operations in Jajpur and Dhenkanal districts for chrome ore extraction.
Further expanding its footprint, ESL Steel Limited, a subsidiary of Vedanta Limited, operates two iron ore mines in Sundargarh district, reinforcing the group’s commitment to Odisha’s mineral and metals sector.
The Vedanta Group’s continued focus on Odisha underscores the state’s emergence as a key destination for large-scale investments in the metals and mining sector.
