Design is more than just aesthetics; it is an innovation that shapes India’s legacy and drives its future development. This was the core message delivered by Union Minister of Commerce & Industry Piyush Goyal during the 44th Convocation Ceremony of the National Institute of Design (NID) on Thursday. Addressing the graduating students, he emphasized their pivotal role in bridging the past and the future of the nation.

Goyal highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Make in India’ and ‘Design in India’ for the world, urging the fresh graduates to turn this aspiration into reality. He described them as problem solvers and innovators who would not only contribute to India’s progress but also design solutions for the global stage. “You will be the architects of the world, and the world is waiting for you,” he told the graduating class.

Stressing the expanding influence of design across various industries, the minister underscored its significance in fields ranging from space exploration to semiconductors. He cited India’s Chandrayaan mission as an example, where design played a crucial role in the success of the satellite. He further pointed out that India’s design expertise would be showcased in domains such as audio-visual technologies, gaming, sustainability, and the toy industry.

“The possibilities in design are endless. We must generate new ideas and innovate on a large scale to serve 140 crore people,” Goyal remarked. He reiterated that inclusive growth and development remain the nation’s strength and called upon the young designers to create, disrupt, and leave a lasting impact on the world.

The convocation ceremony witnessed 430 students from diverse disciplines receiving their degrees, marking the beginning of their journey as professionals poised to shape the future of design in India and beyond.
