Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, inaugurating the Odisha Operative Arthroscopy Course (OOAC) 2025, underscored the transformative impact of technology in modern healthcare. “Our goal is to ensure that people no longer need to travel to neighboring states for quality treatment,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of such initiatives in strengthening Odisha’s healthcare infrastructure.
Organized by the Odisha Arthroscopy Society and Kalinga Hospital Ltd., the course aims to enhance orthopedic and arthroscopy training while introducing the latest advancements in surgical techniques. Singh Deo highlighted the state government’s commitment to improving healthcare through increased recruitment of doctors and technological advancements. Recalling his own sports injury from the late 1970s, he noted the remarkable progress in medical science, particularly in arthroscopic techniques that now offer minimally invasive solutions for complex conditions, reducing the need for conventional surgeries.
The Deputy CM commended the Odisha Arthroscopy Society, Kalinga Hospital Ltd., and Managing Director Nilanjana Mukherjee for their dedication to advancing medical education and innovation. “This initiative will significantly improve healthcare services in Odisha and enhance the quality of life for many,” he said.
The OOAC 2025 has drawn over 150 orthopedic surgeons from across the country, with more than 20 national experts in arthroscopy and sports injury management leading discussions and hands-on training. A key highlight is the live broadcast of advanced arthroscopic surgeries from Kalinga Hospital Ltd.’s OT complex, allowing participants to observe cutting-edge techniques in ligament and sports injury management.
Course Director and Senior Orthopedic Consultant, Prof. (Dr.) Ranajit Panigrahi, stressed the importance of equipping surgeons with state-of-the-art skills. “Thanks to advancements in arthroscopy, athletes can now recover faster and return to peak performance, benefiting both the sports community and the general public,” he noted.
With its focus on minimally invasive surgery and orthopedic innovation, OOAC 2025 is set to leave a lasting impact on Odisha’s healthcare landscape, reinforcing the state’s commitment to medical excellence.
