54th National Safety Week concludes at Paradip Port with a strong message on workplace safety

The 54th National Safety Week observance at Paradip Port Authority (PPA) concluded with a valedictory function held at the Officers’ Club on Wednesday. With the theme “Safety & Well-Being Crucial for Viksit Bharat,” the weeklong initiative reinforced the port’s commitment to safety as a fundamental priority.

A.K. Bose, Advisor, Traffic, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and urged all stakeholders to be proactive in identifying near-miss incidents, analyzing their causes, and implementing preventive measures to eliminate risks. He emphasized that strict adherence to safety norms can effectively prevent workplace accidents.

Honourary Guest Somasekhar Bajaramath, Assistant Director, Dock Safety, highlighted that productivity and safety go hand in hand, stating that safety awareness should not be limited to a single week but must be practiced consistently throughout the year.

Guest of Honour G. Edison, Traffic Manager, reiterated that safety is a core value at PPA, taking precedence over productivity. He stressed the organization’s unwavering focus on ensuring a safe working environment for all.

Distinguished officials, including H.S. Rout, Chief Engineer, and Dr. B.B. Das, Chief Medical Officer, also shared the dais, reinforcing the significance of workplace safety.

The Safety Rath and Safety Rally, which were among the major highlights of the weeklong celebrations, successfully engaged employees and stakeholders in fostering a culture of safety awareness.

The event also recognized and awarded winners of various safety-themed competitions, including essay writing, debates, and poster-making contests. Susil Chandra Nahak, CME, delivered the welcome address, emphasizing safety as a collective responsibility that requires teamwork across all levels. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Manipuspak Sethi, Deputy CME, PPA.
