Dalmia Bharat Limited (DBL), one of India’s leading cement manufacturers, has successfully commenced commercial production at its new 2.4 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) Cement Grinding Unit in Lanka, Assam. This milestone raises the company’s total cement manufacturing capacity in the Northeast to 8 MTPA, while its pan-India capacity now stands at an impressive 49 MTPA.
The newly operational grinding unit is part of DBL’s larger strategic investment plan of Rs 3,642 crore, announced in May 2023, aimed at enhancing its market footprint and meeting the rising demand for cement in the region. Additionally, an integrated Clinker Unit with a capacity of 3.6 MTPA is in an advanced stage of commissioning and is expected to be operational by the second quarter of FY26.
Expressing his enthusiasm on the commissioning of the new unit, Puneet Dalmia, Managing Director & CEO, Dalmia Bharat Limited, said, “I am happy to say that the commissioning of this 2.4 MTPA capacity makes us the largest cement manufacturer in Northeast India. With the government’s strong focus on infrastructure development in the region, this additional capacity will enable us to meet the growing cement demand effectively. Dalmia Bharat has maintained a robust presence in Northeast India for over a decade, operating four cement plants — three in Assam and one in Meghalaya. The company has played a pivotal role in key infrastructure projects such as the Dhola-Sadiya Bridge, Sela Tunnel, and Dhuburi-Phulbari Bridge. Additionally, DBL continues to drive socio-economic development in the region through its initiatives in skill development, community welfare, and environmental sustainability, aligning with its long-term vision for responsible and inclusive growth.
