PPA conducts multi-agency mock drill with NDRF to strengthen disaster preparedness

The Paradip Port Authority (PPA), in collaboration with the 3rd Battalion, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Mundali, conducted a multi-agency coordination mock drill at the Main Fire Station on Monday. This comprehensive exercise was aimed at enhancing post-cyclone response capabilities and refining Team PPA’s preparedness for emergency situations.

The drill simulated multiple emergency scenarios, including building collapse, road blockages, casualty rescue, tank fire fighting, search and rope rescue operations, and emergency victim management. The exercise also integrated hospital services, mutual aid partners, key stakeholders, and security agencies such as the local police and the Intelligence Bureau, ensuring a holistic approach to disaster response.

Several dignitaries and officials attended the drill as observers, including the Harbour Master, Senior Marine Engineer, and Additional Assistant Director of Dock Safety. Representatives from major industrial and logistical entities such as IOCL Pipeline, IOCL Refinery, IFFCO, PPL, JSW, IOCL Terminal, BPCL Terminal, HPCL Terminal, KICT, PICT, CREW, and Adani Wilmar also participated actively in the on-site emergency response activities.

Preceding the live drill, a tabletop exercise was conducted at the Main Fire Station to strategize and enhance coordination.

During this session, NDRF Deputy Commandant Pravin Chauhan briefed stakeholders on the importance of resource mapping in emergency preparedness.

CISF Commandant Akshat Patel emphasized the significance of gap analysis and lauded the efficiency of the rope rescue and emergency management mechanisms demonstrated during the drill.

Deputy Commandant of CISF, B.V. Durga Prasad, also commended the role of mutual aid partners in strengthening disaster response mechanisms at Paradip.

The event was successfully coordinated by Amaresh Kumar, Company Commander of the Fire Wing, underscoring PPA’s commitment to ensuring robust disaster response capabilities through continuous training and collaboration with key emergency response agencies.
