“Failure should be accepted with the same spirit as we embrace success,” Tata Steel Foundation Chairman T V Narendran advised the enthusiastic young participants of the youth conclave Dhwani, organised by Tata Steel on virtual mode on Monday.
Happy to see the enthusiastic participation by the youngsters of Jharkhand and Odisha online at Dhwani, Narendran said: “As each one of us chart out our individual paths for our future, we need to be persistent and consistent in our efforts knowing that even the smallest step taken is one step closer to our goal. Failure should be accepted with the same spirit as we embrace success, this would make us stronger and give courage to keep moving forward.”
Young minds at Tata Steel’s youth conclave Dhwani commenced the two-day event pledging to become responsible citizens of the country through appropriate conduct and behaviour, and to dedicate their efforts towards development of the society.
Ahead of the main conclave, pre-engagements under the aegis of Manthan Yatra with youngsters across Tata Steel’s operating locations revealed some inspiring stories of youth engagement who deserve recognition.
Accordingly, six youngsters were felicitated as Outstanding Yuva Changemakers for their zeal to make a difference in the society:
• Puja Kumari Rajak (21) from Jamadoba who is working towards eliminating social stigma surrounding menstruation
• Chandan Tiria (18) from Kalinganagar who is helping connect drop-out girls back to school
• Pratibha Kumari (25) from West Bokaro who contributed towards inculcating safety norms during the pandemic
• Mukesh Kumar Ravidas (18) from West Bokaro who organises awareness drives to work towards a cleaner environment
• Bhimsingh Chatomba (20) from Noamundi who is actively engaged in forest conservation activities
• Lalsa Kumari (24) Noamundi who is providing free coaching classes
A panel of youngsters as well as experienced rapporteurs including Ridhi Aggarwal, co-founder Swatantra Talim and Ramo Raj Soren, a keen advocate of tribal languages from Seraikela-Kharsawan, explored the first sub-theme for the conclave “Quality Education and Role of Youth”. A poll conducted during the programme revealed that 55 percent youngsters prefer physical mode of education over digital mode.
Anjali Kumari from Jamadoba and Seema Yadav from West Bokaro, representing the voice of youth, mentioned that youth acknowledges that merely by learning by rote and acquiring a degree does not always prove beneficial in the long run, systemic changes need to be brought about in the education system. While emphasising on the importance of girl child education, Seema Yadav stated, “It’s extremely critical to educate a girl child since two families are dependent on a woman.”
Exploring the second sub-theme for the conclave “Youth as catalyst for economic development”, Rehnuma Firdaus from West Bokaro and Ashish Pelei from Joda, emphasized on the need to change the outlook of the society and to encourage entrepreneurship as a viable option. Ekta Jaju, Founder & CEO, Onganic Foods and Raziya Sheik, Founder, Bastar Food also contributed to the dialogue while answering questions on network marketing and digital ventures.
