SBI Life Insurance has extended support to Trilochan Netralaya, a unit of Vision India Foundation, for the project “Cataract Blind Free Sambalpur” which aims at eradication of preventable blindness and provision of qualitative eye care services for the underprivileged sections of society.
In order to make institutional eye care facilities accessible to everyone in the deeper pockets of Sambalpur district, SBI Life Insurance donated a 40-seater bus to facilitate eye screening and transfer of patients to nearby hospitals. The initiative, undertaken as part of company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, is likely to benefit more than 7500 needy people every year.
SBI Life Insurance MD & CEO Mahesh Kumar Sharma handed over the bus keys to Trilochan Netralaya Founder & Director Dr. Shiva Prasad Sahoo in presence of SBI Bhubaneswar Circle Chief General Manager Ruma Dey, SBI Life Insurance Zone-III President Ravindra Kumar, and SBI Life Insurance Regional Director- Bhubaneswar Amit Kumar Saha along with other dignitaries.
Speaking on boosting accessibility to institutional eye care facilities for the underserved sections in the deeper pockets of Sambalpur district, SBI Life Insurance MD & CEO Mahesh Kumar Sharma said, “Cataract blindness is a serious concern that the people of Odisha have been facing due to lack of awareness towards curable measures and accessibility of basic medical amenities. As a responsible corporate citizen, we constantly endeavour to enhance the lives of the communities we serve and we are confident that this initiative will go a long way to provide a better standard of living for residents of Sambalpur.”
“Through this contribution, we hope that thousands of people in the state will be benefitted and basic eye care amenities will be accessible to the underprivileged section of the society,” he added.
Trilochan Netralaya Founder & Director Dr. Shiva Prasad Sahoo said “Trilochan Netralaya with support from SBI Life will achieve this noble aim of serving the poorest of the poor who are beneficiaries of Government social security benefits. Restoration of sight will make them economically productive once again, an act which is the best form of CSR activity in our contemporary society and in a geographical area like western Odisha.”
