In a laudable move, the Odisha Government has decided to refund excess charges against the royalty collected towards sale of coal in cases in which the grade of coal is revised downwards subsequently. This decision is likely to bring cheer to hundreds of coal consumers.
Odisha is the first state in the country to take such a pro-industry measure.
It is a known fact that in the past, excess royalty deposited by coal consumers was not being refunded by any of the state governments in the event of grade of coal revised downwards. This was causing some resentment among the consumers. The Odisha government has taken this proactive step to resolve this issue and encourage industries. Consumers have hailed this step.
