Ten students of archery training program by Vedanta Limited, Lanjigarh have become champions at the 23rd State Archery Championship 2022 held at Khaprakhol in Bolangir from October 1 to 4.
As many as 230 participants from across Odisha took part in the championship. These included 19 toxophilites from Kalahandi, selected at an intra-district championship organised last month by Vedanta Lanjigarh in collaboration with the Kalahandi District Athletics Association (KDAA).
Ten of these 19 students, supported under Vedanta Lanjigarh’s archery programme, have returned home as state champions, winning four gold, two silver and four bronze medals. Three participants – Sanjay Majhi, Mithun Naik and Nithaniyal Mallick – have been selected for the 42nd NTPC Junior Nationals to be held in Panaji, Goa from November 3 to 12. They will now undergo a three-week training program at Cuttack, organized by the Odisha Archery Association.
Congratulating the athletes, Vedanta Limited Deputy CEO (Alumina Business) GG Pal said, “It is heartening for us to see students of our archery training programme attain well-deserved recognition and success at state and national levels. Their victories encourage us to tailor our community development programs to regional needs, making them impactful, transformative, and empowering for our communities. Odisha Olympic Association President and Kalahandi District Athletics Association General Secretary Jagamohan Pattanaik said, “I would like to congratulate all the medal winners and thank Vedanta for its efforts to encourage grass root sporting culture.”
Lauding Vedanta’s efforts, Odisha Archery Association Secretary Sampurnananda Das said, “This is a spectacular performance on the part of the participants from Kalahandi district. I would like to commend Vedanta for its endeavours towards promoting archery in the rural belt, by providing the many forms of support essential for its development.”
