62nd National Maritime Day celebrated at Paradip Port

The 62nd National Maritime Day was commemorated with enthusiasm at Paradip Port Authority (PPA), with celebrations held at the Wet Basin area of the Port’s Marine Site Office. The event was graced by PPA Chairman, P.L. Haranadh, who served as the Chief Guest.

In his keynote address, Haranadh highlighted the innovative business strategies adopted by Team Paradip, which have propelled PPA to the No. 1 position among India’s Major Ports. Despite prevailing market uncertainties, he noted that Paradip Port has emerged as a model of excellence in the maritime sector. He also underscored the Port’s commitment to sustainability, citing the forthcoming induction of a green tug and the advancement of the shore-to-ship electricity supply project. Additionally, he shared plans for a new Signal Station featuring state-of-the-art technology for vessel traffic management, aimed at further enhancing operational efficiency and growth.

Nilabhra Dasgupta, Deputy Chairman of PPA and Guest of Honour, spoke about the pivotal role of global shipping in driving international development. He emphasized that National Maritime Day is a reminder that the future of the maritime industry lies in the hands of the youth. Urging young seafarers to gain experience and learn from seasoned professionals, he called for nurturing the next generation of maritime leaders.

The event also featured addresses by A.K. Bose, Advisor (Traffic), and Capt. A.C. Sahoo, Deputy Conservator of PPA.

A key highlight of the celebration was the felicitation of Capt. Atulya Kumar Mohapatra, former Deputy Conservator of PPA, in recognition of his exemplary contributions to the Indian maritime sector.

As part of the celebrations, several competitions such as swimming, heaving line throw, and rope climbing were organized. Winners were awarded during the event.

The programme began with a welcome address by Capt. Indranil Mukherjee, Harbour Master, and concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Bablu Sikdar, Senior Marine Engineer.
