In a groundbreaking development for India’s defense sector, Adani Defense & Aerospace launched two expansive facilities dedicated to the manufacturing of ammunition and missiles on Monday. These cutting-edge facilities, the first of their kind in India’s private sector, are poised to significantly enhance the nation’s self-reliance and technological prowess in defense capabilities.
The inauguration ceremony of South Asia’s largest facilities was graced by the presence of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Chief of Army Staff General Manoj Pande, GOC-in-C of Central Command Lt Gen NS Raja Subramani, Master General of Sustenance Lt Gen Amardeep Singh Aujla, alongside senior dignitaries from the Ministry of Defense and the Uttar Pradesh Government. They lauded Adani Defense’s endeavors and contributions to bolstering the state and the country’s defense infrastructure.
Spanning across 500 acres, the Kanpur facility is poised to emerge as one of the largest integrated ammunition manufacturing complexes in South Asia. It will cater to the production of high-quality small, medium, and large caliber ammunition for the armed forces, paramilitary forces, and police. The facility has already commenced production of small caliber ammunition, with an initial output of 150 million rounds, estimated to fulfill 25% of India’s annual requirement.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed, “Adani Defense & Aerospace’s significant investment in the Uttar Pradesh Defense Corridor is pivotal in fostering a vibrant defense ecosystem. The swift commencement of operations within 18 months of land allocation is a testament to their commitment. The production of ammunition and missiles from these facilities will be a proud moment in safeguarding the nation.”
Highlighting the importance of self-reliance in missiles and ammunition, Chief of Army Staff General Manoj Pande remarked, “Significant investments like these and Adani Defense & Aerospace’s dedication to indigenize critical technologies instill confidence in relying on Indian private industry for strategic military supplies. This complex marks a significant milestone in India’s journey towards self-reliance in the defense sector.”
Ashish Rajvanshi, CEO of Adani Defense & Aerospace, stated, “The establishment of these ammunition and missiles complexes marks a quantum leap in our pursuit of self-reliance. With a planned investment exceeding Rs. 3,000 crore, its impact extends beyond the defense sector, creating over 4,000 jobs.”
The ammunition complex commenced operations within two years of its announcement by the Adani Group during the Uttar Pradesh Investors’ Summit in 2022.
