Air India, owned by the Tata Group, has become the first airline in India to introduce in-flight Wi-Fi connectivity on domestic routes. Passengers flying on select Airbus A321neo, Airbus A350, and Boeing 787-9 aircraft can now access the Internet during their journey, the airline announced in a press release on Wednesday.
The service allows travellers to stay connected using laptops, tablets, and smartphones with iOS or Android operating systems, even above 10,000 feet. Guests can use Wi-Fi for browsing, social media, work, or staying in touch with loved ones, and multiple devices can be connected simultaneously.
Rajesh Dogra, Chief Customer Experience Officer at Air India, highlighted the significance of this feature in modern travel. “Connectivity is now an integral part of modern travel. For some, it is about the convenience and comfort of real-time sharing, while for others, it is about greater productivity and efficiency. We are confident our guests will appreciate the option of connecting to the web,” he said.
This initiative follows the airline’s ongoing pilot program offering Wi-Fi on international routes to destinations like New York, London, Paris, and Singapore. For an introductory period, the service is available free of charge on both domestic and international flights.
Air India plans to progressively extend this feature across its fleet, aiming to redefine the travel experience for its customers.
