Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, one of India’s top 10 universities according to NIRF 2023, recently hosted the Amrita Research & Innovation Symposium for Excellence (ARISE) 2024, marking a significant gathering of experts and thought leaders. The four-day event emerged as a vibrant platform, fostering innovative solutions to global challenges. Renowned experts delved into key topics such as One Health, Ecosystem Restoration, Information Intelligence & Immersion, Disaster Resilience, Empowered Organizational Systems, Value-Based Education & Indic Studies, Ubiquitous Artificial Intelligence, and inclusivity.
Distinguished guests, including Dr. Venu Govindaraju, Vice President for Research and Economic Development at the University at Buffalo, USA, and Dr. Akhilesh Gupta, Secretary, Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), Govt. of India, graced the occasion alongside Amma, Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, Chancellor of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. Keynote sessions featured insights from industry leaders like Dr. Shankar Venugopal, Vice President of Mahindra & Mahindra; Dr. Ranjith Krishna Pai, Scientist & Senior Director, CEST Division, Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India; and Dr. Anand Madanagopal, Founder & CEO of Cardiac Design Labs.
Dr. Akhilesh Gupta emphasized the necessity of combining knowledge in science and technology with compassion. He highlighted India’s substantial progress in communication, startups, and publication excellence, noting the National Research Foundation’s commitment to enhancing research funding and supporting innovation. The overarching goal is to collaborate across disciplines and internationally to propel India into a global leadership position.
Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, in her keynote address, underscored the intrinsic potential within every individual and the role of education in unlocking this potential. Her impassioned words set the tone for the symposium, urging attendees to utilize their unique capabilities for societal betterment and fostering a deep connection with nature.
Dr. Venu Govindaraju stressed the importance of collaborative research, envisioning a world where science and ethics illuminate sustainable energy and engineering collaborates with social work on prosthetics. He encouraged responsible harnessing of the power of artificial intelligence, guiding machines with ethical practices.
Dr. Upendra Kumar Singh from the Defense Research and Development Organization discussed the global implications of diverse cultures and the escalating role of AI in military dominance. He highlighted strategic plans for AI development in nations like China and India, emphasizing its influence on healthcare, education, and industrial sectors.
Dr. Maneesha V Ramesh, Provost of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, highlighted the institution’s remarkable research achievements and its commitment to merging diverse streams into a powerful force for the betterment of humanity.
The symposium also recognized and honored 24 researchers from Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, acknowledged as among the top 2% scientists globally, during the Amrita Innovation & Research Awards ceremony. The event featured diverse activities, including workshops, exhibitions, poster sessions, cultural programs, and engaging panel discussions on pivotal topics shaping the future.
