Amway India partners with Akshaya Patra Foundation to tackle childhood malnutrition through nutritious meal initiative

Bhubaneswar, November 13, 2024 (TBB Bureau): In a remarkable stride toward addressing childhood malnutrition in India, Amway India, a leader in health and wellbeing, has partnered with The Akshaya Patra Foundation to provide nutritious meals to children in government schools across eight cities. This initiative, launched in celebration of Nutrilite’s 90th anniversary and in honor of Children’s Day, aims to make a meaningful impact by serving over 90,000 meals to underprivileged children while also promoting nutrition education.

The issue of malnutrition remains critical in India, where around 43 lakh children are affected, as reported by the Ministry of Women and Child Development. Committed to building a healthier future, Amway’s initiative goes beyond just feeding; it includes educational sessions to raise awareness among children about balanced diets, hygiene practices, and mental health, empowering them to make informed health choices.

The program is being executed in collaboration with Amway distributors and employees, who actively participated in meal service and engaged with students across Delhi, Jaipur, Bhubaneswar, Guwahati, Pune, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, and Chennai. Commenting on this initiative, Rajneesh Chopra, Managing Director of Amway India, said, “For nine decades, Nutrilite has promoted health and wellbeing. We’re proud to work with The Akshaya Patra Foundation to provide nutritious meals and impart essential knowledge to students, ensuring a healthier future. In a country that bears a significant portion of the global malnutrition burden, nurturing young minds through proper nutrition is vital to their growth and success.”

Shridhar Venkat, CEO of the Akshaya Patra Foundation, also highlighted the significance of this collaboration, stating, “With Amway India’s support, we are able to serve over 90,000 nutritious meals to school children, which is crucial for their health and development. We are grateful to the Ministry of Education and state governments for their continued support in nourishing children nationwide.”

In addition to its partnership with Akshaya Patra, Amway extended its Children’s Day initiatives under the theme “Feed with Kindness” in collaboration with ChildFund India through its Power of 5 program. This awareness campaign, conducted in Mumbai, Kolkata, Lucknow, and Dindigul, emphasized the importance of nutrition and community support.

Amway has a long-standing commitment to fighting malnutrition, including sponsoring mid-day meals for 1,600 children in 2022 and distributing nutrition kits during the pandemic. This year’s Children’s Day initiative reflects Amway’s dedication to creating a healthier nation, aligned with the Government of India’s mission to improve nutrition outcomes and ensure the wellbeing of every child.
