The 20th Paradip Marathon 2025, organized by the Gopabandhu Kreeda Sansad of Paradip Port Authority (PPA), concluded with resounding success on Friday, marking a fitting tribute to the 64th Port Foundation Day. Odisha Police athletes Ashok Dandsena and Susmita Tigga stole the show with their stellar performances in the men’s and women’s categories, respectively.

Ashok Dandsena clocked an impressive 41 minutes and 51.1 seconds to clinch the men’s title in the 14-kilometre race. Close on his heels was Arjun Tudu of Jharkhand, who finished second at 41 minutes and 54.7 seconds, while Dayanidhi Munda from Sonepur secured third place with a time of 44 minutes and 4 seconds.

In the women’s category, Susmita Tigga demonstrated exceptional prowess, completing the course in 53 minutes and 26.5 seconds. Sandhya Murmu from Mayurbhanj finished second with a time of 54 minutes and 58.6 seconds, and Dipti Rani Sahoo rounded off the podium at 55 minutes and 50.1 seconds.

The marathon, flagged off by PPA Chairman PL Haranadh at Hanuman Temple Square, saw enthusiastic participation from 388 runners, including 325 men and 63 women. The course ended at Gopabandhu Stadium, where cheering crowds celebrated the athletes’ dedication.

At the valedictory ceremony, Indian sprinter Srabani Nanda, celebrated for her contributions in 4x100m relay, 100m, and 200m events, was honored by the PPA Chairman. Her assistant coach Namita Kabat and five differently-abled students from Jagruty School were also felicitated, reflecting the event’s inclusive spirit.

In his address, Haranadh emphasized PPA’s leadership in port productivity and modernization. “As the largest major port in terms of rated capacity, we are steadfast in our vision to achieve 400 MMT capacity by 2030. Our commitment extends beyond infrastructure, encompassing environmental sustainability and employee welfare,” he said.

The event was graced by dignitaries, including PPA Deputy Chairman Nilabhra Dasgupta, Indian Coast Guard DIG Sanjay Negi, Business Development Advisor AK Bose, and Paradip Ladies Club Working President Preeti Sondhi.

The marathon’s success was attributed to the meticulous planning of the Paradip Port Sports Council, led by President DN Sondhi, and the support of Gopabandhu Kreeda Sansad’s leadership, including Working President DP Sethi and Secretary Ranjan Rashmi Beura.

Haranadh lauded the athletes, some of whom travelled from as far as Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand, for their determination. “In the spirit of the marathon, PPA is marching forward,” he said, encapsulating the essence of the event that united participants and spectators in celebration of athleticism and community spirit.
