The Bansidhar and Ila Panda Foundation (BIPF) has awarded the prestigious 12th Shambhavi Puraskar to the Centre for Integrated Rural and Tribal Development (CIRTD) for its transformative contributions to rural development in Odisha. The award recognizes CIRTD’s exceptional efforts in improving the lives of farmers, women, children, and youth in Sundargarh District through a range of impactful programs.

The Shambhavi Puraskar, one of the most sought-after accolades for social change in India, is presented annually to individuals and organizations that have made significant strides in rural and tribal development. CIRTD’s work in fostering sustainable agriculture, empowering women, and promoting education has had a lasting impact on the region, making them the deserving recipient of this year’s award.

During the ceremony, Dr. Sibaji Panda from Sonepur, Odisha, was honoured with the Jury Commendation Certification for his dedication to supporting children with hearing impairments. Dr. Panda’s tireless efforts to ensure these children realize their full potential were celebrated as an exemplary model of compassion and perseverance.

The event was graced by Union Minister of State for Skill Development & Enterprise and Education, Jayant Singh Chowdhury, who graced the event as the Chief Guest. Professor Dr. Ashok Kumar Mohapatra, a distinguished academician, was the Guest of Honour.

The ceremony also featured an engaging fireside chat moderated by Shaifalika Panda, Trustee & Founder CEO of BIPF, with youth representatives from the skill sector and schools. The conversation focused on aspirations, challenges, and opportunities for today’s youth, with an emphasis on skill development, career preparedness, and employment prospects. This enlightening discussion underscored the importance of a holistic approach in building a more inclusive society.

Since its inception in 2014, the Shambhavi Puraskar has recognized over 20 changemakers working at the grassroots level, amplifying their influence and inspiring others to initiate community-driven transformations. The award comprises a cash prize of Rs. 5 lakh, along with a citation and trophy. The Jury Commendation Certification is accompanied by a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh and a citation.

Speaking at the event, Jayant Singh Chowdhury highlighted the importance of skill development in Odisha, a state rich in resources but with notable economic disparities. “Institutionally, Odisha is ahead of the game, but there is a pressing need for more entrepreneurs who can create jobs and bridge the economic divide,” he remarked.

Professor (Dr.) Ashok Kumar Mohapatra said, “The transformation begins when we recognize and nurture the potential within communities. BIPF’s recognition through the Shambhavi Puraskar is a powerful reminder of the importance of empowering marginalized communities and children with hearing impairments. Their work serves as an inspiration for creating a more inclusive and equitable future.”

Shaifalika Panda, the driving force behind BIPF’s initiatives, said, “Driving change is about persistence, purpose, and the ability to see potential where others see challenges. The Shambhavi Puraskar awardees remind us that real transformation is rooted in deep human connection. By uplifting communities, they are not just improving lives—they are reshaping the future with compassion and commitment.”

The Shambhavi Puraskar 2025 was awarded to CIRTD for its unwavering commitment to sustainable development, while the Jury Commendation Certification was given to Dr. Sibaji Panda for his outstanding efforts in empowering children with hearing impairments.

The winners are selected by an independent jury panel composed of experts from various sectors, including government, academia, industry, media, and BIPF. The selection process takes into account the impact, sustainability, community involvement, potential for scaling, and innovation of the nominees, ensuring that the award recognizes only those who have made a lasting difference in their communities.
