New Delhi, November 9, 2024 (TBB Bureau): In a significant step toward building high-speed, ultra-low latency 5G infrastructure, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) announced a partnership with Linearized Amplifier Technology Services and Vedang Radio Tech. The Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), along with these two pioneering companies, will jointly develop ‘Millimeter Wave Power Amplifier Chips IP Cores for 5G FR2,’ positioning India at the forefront of next-gen telecom advancements.
This partnership underscores India’s commitment to fostering self-reliant, cutting-edge telecommunications technologies and aligns seamlessly with the National Semiconductor Mission, a critical pillar of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Make-in-India initiative. The project’s goal is to create indigenous mm-wave Power Amplifier IP cores essential for 5G FR2 frequency bands at 26 GHz and 47 GHz, vital frequencies for supporting 5G’s high-speed and low-latency demands.
“This collaboration marks a leap forward in India’s capacity to produce world-class telecom solutions,” said the Ministry of Communications. The ministry highlighted that the power amplifier IP cores will be key components for standalone transceiver chips, as well as serve as foundational blocks in phased array systems designed for beamforming, which is central to 5G’s enhanced connectivity.
Dr. Rajkumar Upadhyay, CEO of C-DOT, celebrated the project as a hallmark of India’s drive toward indigenous innovation in telecommunications. He emphasized the government’s unwavering support in enabling the industry to advance locally produced, globally competitive telecom solutions.
Through this project, the DoT, C-DOT, and their industry partners are on a path to validate and commercialize these mm-wave Power Amplifier IP cores, leveraging standard process design kits (PDKs) to ensure industry-ready, scalable solutions. The collaboration is set to fuel India’s telecom revolution, accelerating high-speed connectivity and providing seamless, ultra-low latency 5G services nationwide.
