Bhubaneswar, October 3, 2024 (TBB Bureau): Navratna CPSE, National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), actively participated in the nationwide Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 campaign. In line with the directives from the Union Ministry of Mines and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, the Swachhata Hi Seva fortnight was observed from September 17 to October 2, 2024, with a focus on promoting voluntary ‘Shram Daan’ and fostering collective responsibility for cleanliness.
Under the leadership of Sridhar Patra, CMD of NALCO, a Swachhata pledge was administered to employees, contractual workers, and CISF personnel across all operating units and regional offices of the company. The initiative saw NALCO organizing mass cleanliness drives, plantation efforts, health camps, and hygiene awareness programs at multiple locations. Personal protective equipment (PPE) kits, safety kits, and hygiene supplies were distributed as part of the campaign.
Besides, various competitions — including quizzes, drawing contests, and poetry recitations — were conducted during the fortnight. These events drew enthusiastic participation from employees, students, and members of the community.
As part of the campaign, NALCO adopted several Cleanliness Target Units at its Angul and Damanjodi operations, further showcasing its commitment to environmental sustainability and community engagement. The initiative not only instilled discipline for adopting a cleaner, more eco-friendly lifestyle but also encouraged participants to dedicate 100 hours annually to cleanliness efforts and promote hygienic practices among others.
The campaign culminated on October 2, 2024, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, with the felicitation of the ‘Safai Mitras’ — the sanitation workers — who were recognized for their significant contributions in maintaining clean and hygienic environments at NALCO’s workstations, offices, and residential areas.
