East Coast Railway (ECoR) has achieved a significant infrastructure milestone by commissioning 281.5 kilometres of new lines and multi-tracking works in the financial year 2024-25, marking a record 50% jump over the previous year’s accomplishment of 187.2 kilometres.

This unprecedented achievement reflects ECoR’s sustained commitment to expanding railway infrastructure and improving connectivity across its jurisdiction. The projects were executed through meticulous planning and tireless efforts by the Construction wing, with continuous coordination involving state government bodies and other key stakeholders. Shri Parmeshwar Funkwal, General Manager, East Coast Railway, congratulated the team for their dedication and perseverance in delivering these critical projects on time.

Several major sections have been successfully commissioned across Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh, enhancing both passenger and freight movement capabilities. These include the 73.16 km stretch between Sonepur and Purunakatak under the Khurda Road–Balangir Rail Line Project; the 40.62 km section between Dhenkanal, Sadashivpur, and Hindol Road, and the 27.28 km Hindol Road–Meramundali section under the Budhapank–Salegaon 3rd & 4th Line Project; the 22.94 km Laksahmipur Road–Singaram–Tikiri section and 12.39 km Baiguda–Kakiriguma section under the Koraput–Singapur Road Doubling Project; and the 23.64 km stretches between Dantewada–Kamlur and Bacheloi–Kirandul under the Kirandul–Jagdalpur Doubling Project.

Additionally, under the Kottavalasa–Koraput Doubling Project, the 12.65 km Darliput–Girapur, 9.77 km Darliput–Padua, 9 km Karakavalasa–Similiguda, and 11.16 km Suku–Koraput sections have been completed. The Bhadrak–Nergundi 3rd Line Project saw the commissioning of the 5 km Ranital (Bhadrak) Junction Cabin–Bhadrak section and the 11.60 km Baitarani Road–Jajpur Keonjhar Road section. Other important additions include the 6.53 km Samal–Parabil stretch of the Talcher–Bimalagarh New Line, the 6.50 km Talcher–Talcher Road section of the Jarapada–Budhapank 3rd & 4th Line Project, and the 9.34 km Manabar–Jarati stretch under the Koraput–Jagadalpur Doubling Project.

These infrastructure upgrades form part of ECoR’s larger vision of building a modern, efficient, and future-ready railway network. By strengthening multi-modal connectivity and reducing congestion, they are expected to significantly boost regional trade, stimulate local economies, and create employment opportunities.

ECoR’s strong performance in FY25 places it among the leading zones in terms of railway infrastructure expansion and underscores its vital role in driving economic transformation in eastern India.
