Empowering Women for a Sustainable Future: ICSI’s 3rd National Women’s Conference kicks off in Indore

The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) inaugurated its much-anticipated 3rd National Women’s Conference in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, on Friday. This two-day conference, themed “Transforming the Future: Women’s Role in Sustainable Development,” brought together thought leaders, industry pioneers, and esteemed professionals to celebrate the strength, resilience, and accomplishments of women across sectors.

The event witnessed the presence of two distinguished women leaders, Neeti Agarwal, Director of PATH India Ltd., and Dr. Priyanka Mokshmar, Chairperson and Managing Director of Vaayu India, who graced the conference as Special Guests. Both speakers shared valuable insights, drawing attention to the critical role women play in driving sustainable development globally.

Dr. Priyanka Mokshmar, in her address, highlighted the timeless nature of sustainability, reflecting on the life and legacy of Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar, a renowned historical figure known for her forward-thinking governance and sustainable practices. Dr. Mokshmar emphasized that sustainability is not merely a modern-day concept but a tradition that has long been practiced. She encouraged the attendees to draw lessons from Devi Ahilya’s exemplary leadership, particularly in fostering community empowerment and good governance.

Neeti Agarwal expressed her delight at the conference being hosted in the city of Devi Ahilya, underscoring that women have historically been at the forefront of sustainable development. She commended the invaluable contributions women have made in conservation and preservation efforts, which continue to shape our environmental and societal landscapes today.

The conference also featured distinguished speakers from various government and regulatory bodies, who led engaging discussions over the course of the event. Some of the key topics covered included “Women-led Development: Amplifying the Legacy of Devi Ahilyabai Holkar – A Prerequisite to Viksit Bharat,” “Legislative Developments: Promoting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion,” “Women Entrepreneurs: Igniting the Startup Ecosystem,” and “Congenial Work Environment for Women: Key to Organizational Success.” Additionally, sessions explored “CS Professionals vis-à-vis State Level Opportunities,” providing a platform for participants to explore professional growth and new prospects in the field of company secretarial practices.

During the conference, ICSI also made important announcements, including the upcoming 26th National Conference of PCS, the ICSI Panchayat Governance Week, and the unveiling of several initiatives aimed at empowering women in the profession. These included the revamping of ICSI’s library facilities and the introduction of an exclusive certificate course for women company secretaries.

Around 300 professionals attended the event in person, while approximately 4500 professionals participated virtually, reflecting the widespread impact and reach of the conference. In his remarks, CS Dhananjay Shukla, President of ICSI, reaffirmed the institute’s commitment to advancing women’s equality through engagement and collective action. He highlighted ICSI’s focus on inclusiveness, cohesiveness, and transparency as key principles that guide the organization’s initiatives and its capacity-building efforts.

The event also saw the presence of several notable ICSI leaders, including CS Pawan G Chandak, Vice President; CS B. Narasimhan, Immediate Former President; CS Ashish Karodia, Programme Director & Council Member; and CS Praveen Soni, Council Member, among others. Local dignitaries, including CS Hrishikesh Wagh, Chairman of WIRC, The ICSI, and CS Amit Kumar Barange, Chairman of the Indore Chapter, The ICSI, also graced the occasion.

As the conference continues, the discussions and initiatives are set to shape the future of women in the company secretarial profession and beyond, strengthening the collective vision for a sustainable and inclusive tomorrow.
