Paradip, July 24, 2024 (TBB Bureau): Paradip Port has successfully completed its first ship-to-ship transfer of special grade diesel from MV Orkim Fortitude to the empty tanker MV Torm Republican at its North Oil Jetty within the harbour area.
This initiative, designed to reduce shipping costs, underscores the port’s commitment to innovative business strategies. Paradip Port Authority (PPA) Chairman P.L. Haranadh and Deputy Chairman Nilabhra Dasgupta have praised Team PPA for reaching this significant milestone. The Chairman marked the occasion with a symbolic cake-cutting ceremony.
Ship-to-ship (STS) operations are essential for transferring cargo seamlessly when shore reception facilities are unavailable, helping overcome logistical challenges. Paradip Port demonstrates flexibility by conducting STS operations both at outside anchorages and within the harbour. The recent transfer inside the harbour was necessary due to unfavorable weather conditions at the anchorage. This achievement marks a new milestone in the port’s operational capabilities, further enhancing its reputation. The operation was executed by PPA’s in-house pilot with support from the Marine and Traffic teams.
