The 2nd International Conference on Signal Processing, Communication, Power, and Embedded Systems (SCOPES-2024), hosted by the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at Centurion University of Technology and Management (CUTM), concluded with resounding success, setting the stage for future collaborations between academia and industry. The three-day event, held from January 7-9, 2025, served as a dynamic platform for global thought leaders, researchers, and innovators to discuss the latest advancements in emerging technologies.
The conference was inaugurated by an esteemed group of dignitaries, with Prof. G. S. N. Raju, Chancellor of CUTM, Andhra Pradesh, gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest. He was joined by distinguished Guests of Honour, including Dr. P. S. R. Srinivasa Sastry, Founder & Former Director of DSP, DRDO, Hyderabad; Prof. Ganapati Panda, Former Director of IIT Bhubaneswar; and Prof. H. K. Ratha, Retd. Director of ITR, Chandipur and Chair of IEEE Bhubaneswar Sub-Section.
Prof. Supriya Pattanayak, Vice-Chancellor of CUTM, and Prof. Anita Patra, General Chair and Registrar, delivered welcoming addresses that highlighted the university’s commitment to fostering groundbreaking research and facilitating global academic collaborations. Dr. Debendra Kumar Sahoo, Organizing Chair, provided an overview of the conference’s objectives, emphasizing its focus on cutting-edge technologies in signal processing, communication, and power systems.
The conference saw exceptional participation with 654 research papers submitted from across the world. A meticulous review process, involving 916 global reviewers, culminated in the selection of 242 papers for presentation, which included 12 international submissions from countries such as the USA, Australia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Saudi Arabia, and Malaysia. The papers covered a diverse range of topics including signal processing, communication systems, power electronics, and embedded technologies, making SCOPES-2024 a true representation of global technological discourse.
SCOPES-2024 featured an impressive lineup of keynote speakers who shared valuable insights into the future of technology. Dr. P. S. R. Srinivasa Sastry, Founder & Former Director of DSP, DRDO, Hyderabad, delivered a keynote on advancements in defence signal processing, shedding light on cutting-edge technologies in the defense sector. Prof. (Dr.) Naeem Hannoon from the University of Teknologi MARA, Malaysia, spoke about the future of Smart Grids, exploring dynamic optimization and automation in substations. Dr. Raffaele Scuderi, an Electromagnetics Industry Process Consultant, discussed innovations in industrial processes, including 5G coverage and the role of Industry 4.0 and digitalization in enhancing industrial efficiency. Renuka Srinivasan, Director at SIMULIA India, Dassault Systems, presented on simulation-driven engineering, focusing on high-performance antenna systems design.
Other notable speakers included Prof. (Dr.) Ganapati Panda, Former Deputy Director at IIT Bhubaneswar, who discussed bio-inspired techniques in signal processing and their applications in biomedical engineering, active noise control, and intelligent sensors. Sunil Sabat, Principal Program Manager at Microsoft Corporation, explored how cloud platforms like Azure and OpenAI are transforming the design of modern electronic systems. Prof. H. K. Ratha, Chair of IEEE Bhubaneswar Sub-section, emphasized the importance of IEEE membership in fostering technical education. Purna Chandra Mohanty, CEO of Marquee Semiconductor, shared insights into the future of silicon design, focusing on the shift to chiplet-based systems. Dr. Jagannath Nayak, Director at DRDO, Hyderabad, captivated the audience with a talk on AI, robotics, and hypersonic technologies in the future of warfare, stressing India’s role in defence innovation.
The valedictory session was a fitting conclusion to the conference, with Dr. Jagannath Nayak addressing the audience on India’s emerging leadership in defence technology, driven by AI and advanced engineering. Prof. D. K. Sahoo, Organizing Chair, echoed these sentiments in his speech, emphasizing the significance of interdisciplinary collaboration in driving innovation and addressing global challenges. Dr. Mukti Kanta Mishra, President of Centurion University, concluded the session with an inspiring speech on sustainability, highlighting its importance in addressing global challenges such as climate change, resource depletion, and social inequality. He praised Centurion University’s commitment to integrating sustainability into its academic and research endeavours.
The conference’s success was attributed to the meticulous coordination of the organizing team, led by Dr. D. K. Sahoo, Dr. Ashok Mishra, Dr. Prafulla Panda, and several other faculty members. Their collective efforts ensured the smooth execution of the event, which showcased Centurion University’s commitment to advancing technological knowledge and fostering global academic-industry collaboration.
