“I had full confidence in my girls — they are unstoppable!” These were the words of a proud Nita M. Ambani as the Mumbai Indians (MI) women’s team lifted their second Women’s Premier League (WPL) title in three years. The victory was made even more special as MI triumphed in front of a roaring home crowd, with the Paltan creating an electrifying atmosphere. With this win, MI have now become the most successful team in WPL history, much like their men’s team in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Ambani praised her team’s resilience and fighting spirit, stating that they had committed to playing till the last ball and never giving up. She highlighted Natalie Sciver-Brunt’s stellar bowling performance, taking three crucial wickets, and captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s outstanding batting, both of which were instrumental in MI’s triumph. She also credited the support staff for their continuous encouragement, noting that there was never a quiet moment in the MI dugout.
Beyond the victory, Ambani emphasized the broader impact of supporting women in sports. She stated that empowering and encouraging young girls unlocks their true potential, reinforcing her commitment to education and sports as essential pillars of empowerment.
Mumbai Indians’ success in the WPL adds to their growing legacy in franchise cricket. Just weeks earlier, MI Cape Town clinched their maiden SA20 title, further strengthening MI’s dominance in global T20 cricket. Throughout the WPL season, Mumbai Indians displayed complete dominance, with their players winning top individual honors, including the Orange Cap, Purple Cap, and Most Valuable Player awards.
With this victory, Mumbai Indians now hold 12 franchise league titles, making them the most successful team in T20 history. Their achievements include five IPL titles, two WPL championships, two Champions League T20 titles, and one title each in Major League Cricket (MI New York, 2023), ILT20 (MI Emirates, 2024), and SA20 (MI Cape Town, 2025). As MI prepare to return to action in the IPL next week, their pursuit of excellence continues, driven by their winning culture and deep connection with fans across the world.
Formed in 2008, Mumbai Indians are owned by Indiawin Sports Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary of Reliance Industries. With five teams across three continents and four countries, MI have become a true global cricketing powerhouse, setting new benchmarks in franchise sports with their commitment to excellence and champion mindset.
