ICSI Board Mentorship Programme commences in Ooty

Kolkata, September 13, 2024 (TBB Bureau): The Institute of Governance Professionals of India (IGPI), a subsidiary of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), has launched its inaugural ICSI Board Mentorship Programme in Ooty, Tamil Nadu. The 3-day programme, taking place from September 12-14, 2024, is aimed at equipping Board Members, Directors, and Senior Leaders with essential knowledge in law, governance, and sustainability.

During the opening ceremony, CS B. Narasimhan, President of ICSI and Director of IGPI, hailed the initiative as a crucial step in achieving ICSI’s vision of becoming a global leader in promoting good corporate governance. He emphasized the growing responsibilities of directors in a rapidly evolving corporate environment and highlighted the programme as a platform for business leaders from across the country to discuss contemporary challenges and brainstorm innovative solutions.

CS Dhananjay Shukla, Vice President of ICSI and Director of IGPI, described the event as a celebration of corporate leadership and a deep dive into the concepts of governance and sustainability. He praised modern Boards for their increasing focus on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) criteria and predicted that the mentorship programme would mark the beginning of a new era in elevating corporate governance standards.

CS Manish Gupta, Immediate Past President of ICSI and Director of IGPI, spoke on the relevance of this knowledge-sharing initiative in light of the shifting corporate landscape. He further highlighted ICSI’s various efforts to strengthen the governance framework of Indian corporations, drawing attention to the Institute’s infrastructural strength, including its global outreach and Section 8 companies.

The programme has attracted a diverse group of participants, including corporate leaders, directors, senior government officials, and industry professionals from across the nation. The agenda focuses on key topics such as the Board’s Legal Environment, Corporate Governance, ICSI Secretarial Standards on Board & General Meetings, and Corporate Sustainability.

This unique mentorship initiative is expected to foster enhanced governance practices and provide attendees with the tools needed to navigate the increasingly complex corporate world.
