ICSI’s CCGRT holds symposium on green economy and environmental sustainability

Kolkata, September 13, 2024 (TBB Bureau): The Centre for Corporate Governance Research and Training (CCGRT) Kolkata of The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), in association with Amity University, Kolkata, organized a symposium on Friday, focusing on the crucial topic, Impact of Green Economy and Environmental Sustainability on Climate Change and its Resilience: A Modern Approach Towards National Agenda “Vikshit Bharat”. The event was held with the objective of raising awareness and fostering discussion on sustainability and its relevance to India’s developmental goals.

CCGRT Kolkata, a premier research organization, and Amity University, known for its academic excellence, share a mutual goal of contributing towards a “Vikshit Bharat” (Developed India). This collaborative programme aimed to generate synergy between academic and research institutions while emphasizing the importance of environmental sustainability, particularly in the context of climate change.

In her address, CS Rupanjana De, Central Council Member of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), stressed the significance of environmental sustainability as a legacy for future generations. She highlighted the growing importance of such discussions in the global arena and emphasized that industry is now actively seeking expertise on sustainability during recruitment processes. “It is vital that we ensure our actions today benefit the generations to come, and initiatives like this are steps in the right direction,” she said.

CS Sandip Kejriwal, another Central Council Member of ICSI, spoke on the importance of synergy between educational and research institutions. He highlighted the potential for collaboration through joint academic research, workshops, and professional development programmes for students and academicians. “We are looking at a future where India needs more than one lakh company secretaries, and the ICSI provides a platform to help professionals secure a seat at the decision-making table in corporate governance,” he noted.

Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Vice Chancellor of Amity University, Kolkata, expressed his pleasure at being a part of the initiative. He remarked on the long-term benefits of the partnership between the two institutions, which will create valuable opportunities for students and professionals. “This collaboration will not only enrich the academic landscape but also provide cross-institutional relevance and opportunities for growth in the realm of green economy and sustainability,” he added.

The symposium underscored the need for continued dialogue and cooperation between academic and professional bodies to address the pressing issues of climate change and environmental resilience.
