In a pioneering initiative to enhance eye health in rural communities, Jindal Steel & Power (JSP), through its social arm Jindal Foundation, launched a Free Community Eye Check-up Program in Angul. The event, held at Jamunali Village, marked a significant step in JSP’s commitment to improving health and well-being in its peripheral villages, especially focusing on the early detection and treatment of vision-related issues.

The program, which was inaugurated by Neeraj Kalla, VP- Mines, JSP, in the presence of local community leaders including Jamunali Sarpanch Shila Pradhan, aims to provide free eye care services to underserved populations. The event was organized in collaboration with Lepra Society, a technical partner known for its expertise in eye care. Hundreds of villagers attended, eager to take advantage of on-site eye check-ups and necessary medical consultations.

In celebration of the birthday of Savitri Jindal, the Chairperson Emeritus of the OP Jindal Group, the event began with a special health awareness session that emphasized the importance of eye health and the need for accessible healthcare in rural areas. Ajay Singh, AVP- CSR Mines, Subash Ray, DGM-CSR Mines, Jayanta Kumar Mohanty, GM-CSR, Ashutosh Mishra, DGM-CSR, and Kundan Kumar, AGM-CCD, all highlighted JSP’s ongoing commitment to the welfare of the community.

The eye check-up camp received an overwhelming response, particularly from elderly villagers who were in need of eye care services. Over 100 villagers benefited from the free screenings, with many receiving essential medicines, spectacles, and personalized eye care advice. Experienced ophthalmologists conducted thorough examinations, ensuring that those with vision problems were given the necessary prescriptions and referrals for further treatment. The expert team from Lepra Society played a crucial role in diagnosing potential vision issues and providing valuable preventive measures.

This initiative is part of Jindal Foundation’s broader mission to promote inclusive healthcare and social responsibility. As part of its ‘Dristhi’ program, which is a key component of JSP’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts, the foundation has already provided eye care services to over 10,000 individuals, including drivers, senior citizens, and people from various age groups. Through the program, individuals receive need-based eye treatment, prescriptions, and spectacles as required.

Shallu Jindal, Chairperson of Jindal Foundation, reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to serving the communities it operates in. “We Care for Your Eyes,” the theme of the ‘Dristhi’ program, reflects the Foundation’s dedication to improving the lives of people by ensuring that essential healthcare services, such as eye care, are accessible to all, especially in rural areas.

The success of this eye check-up camp is a testament to the positive impact that such programs have on underserved communities. With this successful initiative, Jindal Foundation plans to expand its outreach to other villages, reinforcing its dedication to providing accessible healthcare to the most vulnerable populations.
